NUC’s Directory of Full Professors in the Nigerian University System, 2017

NUC’s Directory of Full Professors in the Nigerian University System, 2017http://www.unn.edu.ng/nucs-directory-of-full-professors-in-the-nigerian-university-system-2017/.

Esteemed Vice-Chancellor,

NUC under the able leadership of His Academic Eminence, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed is making history again. No university system in Africa has a database and a published directory of full professors in the system. None whatsoever. I am not sure any exists anywhere on the planet! He has directed that one should be in place and asked the NUC Strategy Advisory Committee (STRADVCOM) to facilitate the process. We are honoured to heed and implement this directive.

Among its numerous benefits, it is the view of the Executive Secretary that the Directory of Full Professors in the Nigerian University System, 2017 (to be updated annually) will be of immense benefit to:

  • Vice-Chancellors in sourcing full professors for external assessment especially for appointment/promotion of senior academics especiallyprofessors.
  • NUC for strengthening its database of experts including members of accreditation panels.
  • Federal and state governments for sourcing experts for various assignments requiring quality scholarship.
  • Development partners for sourcing Nigerian experts for national and international consultancies.

The hard and searchable electronic versions of the publication are due for release by the Executive Secretary on July 2, 2018.

Action Required:

  1. Please request all full Professors in your university appointed/promoted up to December 31, 2017 and who desire to be part of the Directory,to register at the link below.
  2. Please note the maximum number of professors you declared for your University for 2017 in The State of University Education in Nigeria, 2017 in the table below and keep within this number.
  3. You may request your DAP to ensure that only genuine Professors from your university enrol in the Directory. Those on sabbatical and other approved leaves should also be contacted and encouraged to enrol.
  4. To speed up the entry by each Professor, we have provided below, the fields that are required for filling-in so the Professor can study and prepare relevant information to enable him/her complete the form in less than no time. He/she is also to upload the latest CV (in Microsoft Word) to the site.

Deadline for submission of entries is June 30, 2018. Any university or professor that misses out in this inaugural edition will have another opportunity in 2019.  However, we strongly advise that your university and all your full professors should take advantage of being part of this first outing. Since the ES wants to launch on July 2, we regret that we will not be able to extend the deadline of June 30The online platform is programmed to stop taking new entries from 12 midnight of June 30. We will be happy if all the over 9000 full Professors in the system in 2017are part of this publication.

NBS: Unemployment increases in the first quarter of 2016

 Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says another 1.5 million Nigerians became unemployed in the first quarter of 2016.

NBS said the country’s unemployment rate grew from 10.4 percent to 12.1 percent in the last quarter of 2015.

Also, Nigeria saw about the same number of people become unemployed in the third and fourth quarter.

The report reads:

“In Q1 2016, the labour force population (i.e. those within the working age population willing, able and actively looking for work) increased to 78.4 million from 76.9million in q4 2015,” NBS said.

“This means an additional 1,528,647 economically active persons within 15-64 entered the labour force i.e. were able and willing and actively looking for work between January 1 and March 31 2016.

“Within the same period, the total number in full time employment (did any form of work for at least 40 hours) decreased by 528,148 persons or 0.97%.

“This consists of people who lost their jobs and were either forced or for various reasons chose to move from full time employment to underemployment.

“Within the same period, the number of unemployed in the labour force, increased by 1,449,18 persons (increase of 518,000 between Q3 and Q4 2015) between Q4 2015 and Q1 2016.”

 Unemployment among the youths also rose to 42.24 percent, as 15.2million youths remain unemployed in the economy.

“Accordingly, out of a total youth labour force of 38.2 million (representing 48.7% of total labour force in Nigeria of 78.48mn), a total of 15.2mn of them were either unemployed or underemployed in Q1 2016 representing a youth unemployment rate of 42.24%.

Reasons why some girls dont attend to boys on social media

1 : Fake Identity ;

You see a guy's request on social media especially that Facebook with a celebrity picture as dp or cover photo and then you go to check the real profile only to see him snapping in front of canal or taking shots on the highway with half bottle of star.

Really guys ? Really? To what end?

2 : Silly compliments ;

You see comments like "as I see you I see the moon and the stars" Bro it's daytime  now.
"You are my sun in the midst of the storm " like seriously ? At least get a literature book and recite your lines.

3 : Sending pictures without being asked ;

Guys seriously if you do this you need to top up your game like that's the height of low self esteem, especially when the pictures come with terrible backgrounds honestly don't expect a lady to answer you.

4 : Funny Names :

  You gets a notification and it's a message from "Dope Nigga sh*t " oh !! What a name.(rolls eyes***)
 Such a name is a big turn off and for me personally I don't fancy guys who don't spell out their names correctly. You spell shola as shawler or David as Daywhvid. It shows unseriousness in most cases.

5 : Proud Guys ;

You gets a message like " Hello pretty am chatting with you with my iPhone6" like seriously thats too  childish  or some immediately you reply Hi back they start telling you their history and life achievements so far and I will just be like "Guy what's the driving force behind this epistles" one annoying thing about this set of guys is that they turn insulting all of a sudden if you don't reply them. Well who really cares? Lol.

6 : Profs in English Language ;

Okay this ones are just damn funny.... you see mesages like "thanks for the  acceptance offered"  "your acceptance is my delight " or  those that will go ahead to send pictures of Mr Bean giving acceptance speech. Really

2 Teenage girls commit suicide after being raped by five men

Three people including two policemen have been arrested after two teenage cousins from the low-caste Dalit community in India, committed suicide following their rape by five men. The two teenage girls aged 14 and 15 were found on Wednesday night, hanging from a tree in a northern Indian village, after they went missing the night before. They were said to have hanged themselves late Tuesday, May 27 after being gang-raped by five men in a village in the Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh state. According to Budaun police chief, Atul Saxena, a post-mortem report suggests the girls committed suicide. "But we will take into account all aspects before coming to a conclusion," Saxena said. He revealed that the head of Katra's police station had been suspended for not acting immediately when the girls' family complained they were missing. Saxena added that a team of about 50 police officers were on the lookout for the absconding accused. Though he could not confirm their exact ages, he said they were in their late teens.

The tech giants yesterday revealed that the acquisition of the headphone brand and company was a move to help out the music business that has been for some time going through rough patches financially. Apple CEO Tim Cook said: "Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple", "That's why we have kept investing in music and are bringing together these extraordinary teams so we can continue to create the most innovative music products and services in the world." This is Apple's highest ever acquisition ,the other record stands at $400 million, the price they paid to get Steve Jobs company NeXT and him back into their franchise. They also have hired Beats owners Dr Dre and Jimmy Lovine into the Apple family. Apple is worth over $150 billion and last year made a revenue of $171 billion despite fierce competition from Samsung and HTC.

Manchester United owner is dead

Malcolm Glazer,Manchester United owner has been announced dead at the age of 85. His death,whose family also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American football franchise, was announced on the Bucs' website. The American businessman would be remembered as the man who led the controversial takeover of the Old Trafford club in 2005, plunging the club more than £500million in debt. Though Glazer Snr has been ill for some time and has left the running of United to sons Joel and Avram for the majority of the family's ownership period. Commenting on his death, a United spokesman said only: 'The thoughts of everyone at United are with the family tonight.' There will be respect but little sympathy from many United fans who will always blame Glazer for the money his family's company have drained from Old Trafford over the years to service their enormous debts. During the Glazer years, United managed to win five Barclays Premier League titles and one Champions League. Glazer leaves a wife, Linda, and six children. R.I.P to him. www.naij.com
